10. I will always be alert to the problem of keeping the enviornment pollution-free.  I will not cut down trees unnecessarily

It started with an intriguing conversation with a good friend. We were discussing her workplace and she calmly mentioning a few situations that left her feeling slightly unsettled. Being very analytic and observant by nature, my friend suddenly made an interesting comparison between her employer and a cult.

Her comment didn't really shock me. It's not the first time someone has made such a suggestion to me and to be honest, it's a concept that had crossed my mind in the past. Considering we live in a world where large corporations are often more about their image (or rather, the image they want to project) than sincerity, it's not at all surprising that attempting to manipulate encourage employees to play the game.

Come on, we've all seen it - the ambiguous company mantra, the ridiculous corporate cheers that are just plain silly and of course, the 'our way or the highway' mentality that is force fed in the name of 'team player' - in fact, these things have become such a 'normal' part of the corporate culture, that many people mindlessly follow without ever questioning the benefits of such rituals. I mean, should we have to be told to work well together? Didn't we learn that in kindergarten?

In comparison, cults are lead by charismatic individuals who expect their followers to demonstrate obedience, unquestioning commitment and loyalty - oh, and sometimes drink funky Kool-Aid and chant funny mantras. Oh wait, mantras?

Then again, is that really such a rarity? Don't we all know people who mindlessly follow others, never questioning whether they are right or wrong? Let's face it, some people have very strong personalities and can easily persuade others of their beliefs, regardless of how ridiculous or far fetched they may be. We've seen it in powerful people such as politicians and CEOs or even in our everyday lives, in the form of family members and sometimes intimate relationships. As for followers, they tend to have more passive personalities or perhaps they are simply someone who gets swept away by a more energetic personality.

I've always been pretty direct regarding my beliefs, even during times when it wasn't a very popular to do so. I never really understood people who weren't aware of what was going on around them, weren't interested in current events or don't bother to ask questions. In fact, it's actually kind of scary.

On the other hand, I love talking to people who are knowledgeable, are open and optimistic. It just makes for a very invigorating conversation even when I don't agree with them. If I had a business, I would love employees with diverse ideas and opinions. On the other hand, if I was a cult leader, these same things would probably not be so appealing to me.

My friend that compared her workplace to a cult felt that it was best to stay under the radar.  It seemed like a better alternative than to question any of the forced encouraged team building activities, the 'values' that were constantly reaffirmed or any other daily BS. She didn't want to be a leader or a follower, but instead chose to sit back and watch the well orchestrated dance - and giggle at the absurdity of it all.

Perhaps that makes her the most clever person I know.

Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" may include two self-portraits of the legendary Renaissance artist, according to a British art expert.

Ross King says the nose, beards and hairstyles of two of the apostles standing to the right of Jesus in the portrait, Thomas and James the Lesser, match a portrait of Leonardo that was made several years after he created his masterpiece.

King told the Independent that while historians have long-suspected Leonardo placed images of himself in his works, no one has thoroughly researched "The Last Supper" for such evidence.

The 15-x-29-foot painting has been the source of endless speculation, though most of the analysis has focused on hidden meanings within the painting itself, such as how each of the apostles is reacting to the revelation that one of them has betrayed Jesus.

Still, King concedes that there is no definitive record of Leonardo's physical appearance but says the Greek physical characteristics were "rarities for an Italian man of that period," according to UPI.

Leonardo da Vinci scholar Charles Nicholl supports King's hypothesis, telling the Independent,"Of all the apostles that [Leonardo] would wish to be identified with, I think Doubting Thomas would be top of his list because Leonardo was a great believer in asking questions rather than accepting what people tell you."

     Alright, I’m getting on my soapbox now. I’ve posted about Gen Y before, I detailed how we are perceived as spoiled because we are desperately seeking our dream job. Well, I’m going to reiterate.

     Recently a blog appeared in Tech Crunch where the author wrote about why she is relieved that she’s not a Millennial. Detailing how our generation thinks it’s ok to job hop and that we feel entitled to everything in life. I’m not going to make a gross generalization here on behalf of Gen Y because we all know gross generalizations are just that and you can’t pigeon hole an entire generation. I am talking firmly from my experience with friends, colleagues and  myself.

     Yes, we are being picky at times about our job options. You want to know why? We were raised to figure out what we want in life and what we believe to be true and to stick by that.  I have experienced my parents – born just young enough to not take full advantage of Woodstock – who sold out. Then one day my Mom came home from her very cushy job and said she quit. She felt that she had sold out and didn’t believe that her personal morals stacked up with what her company was creating. Then my Dad started his own Architecture firm after being sick of working in a huge firm that basically just churned out houses and office buildings. My brother and I were raised to stay true to what we believe and not sell out. I know many other Millennial’s my age who believe the same thing. We are young and yes we’re in a bad economy right now so we are job hopping. Remember that old saying “Last hired first fired?” – hello!

     Not to say that I don’t have peers who are quitting because it’s not stacking up to what they wanted it to be. I can’t vouch for those people on the whole but maybe they realized it honestly wasn’t a good fit or maybe they were being spoiled. Also we have been told that in this economy we need to be a Jack of All Trades and taking multiple temp jobs while looking for our ideal full time work is a way to do that. I don’t think it’s all on one side or another, its a mix.

     We also know that on the whole we are living longer, so why would we want to rush into a full time job when we know with the way things are going we’ll be working until we are 70?

     I would also like to remind you of what people were saying about the Boomers when they were are age, avoiding jobs and going to school to get Liberal Arts degrees (GASP!) They were told that their music was the devil and that they were idealists and would one day grow up and realize that’s not how the world worked. Well  some of them sold out and some of them woke up one day and taught their kids not to do the same thing and some of them chose

     One other thing people are over looking right now is the fact that the entry-level work force now is so different then it was 10 years ago. We have tools at our disposal that our parents never dreamed would exist, Twitter, Skype, Facebook and on and on. We are at the forefront of a shift in how our entire country and world is communicating. Why wouldn’t we have a different take on the job search? Also, young people have always been idealists and naive right out the gate. We have next to no real world experience and it’s a steep learning curve out there.

     I agree with the post on Savvy Intern earlier this week. Take your “parent” and “adult” hat off and just try to put yourself in our shoes. Literally our entire lives we have grown up in an experimental environment, Montessori schools, no idea what segregation ment, growing up during a huge boom in our economy and now having to deal with the biggest recession since the great depression. We are living in a world where all we know is we don’t know anything except the life we want to be leading one day down the road. Don’t bash us just because we are following our dreams to the best of our ability at this point in time.

Please be open and take a moment to speak with a Millennial before you homogenize and stereotype us into oblivion. I promise we’ll put our smartphone down for 20 minutes and have a genuine face-to-face conversation with you.

He used to pray as a child “God please not let me awake and see the next day”. At that time his only prayer was to bring his death soon, he had a reason; an abusive mother, stressful school, and nobody to understand him. He started loving the darkness of the night. Cold breeze was the only one there to hug him at night and listened to his vain.

He grew up, and then he met her. She was like an angel; she listened to him, she gave him the caring of a mother, comfort of a sister, love of a lover. Then he prayed “Dear God I love my life now, now I understand why you never heard my other prayer, because you where saving me for her, now my prayer is to you is, please let her stay with me like this till the day u take me away from this world”. However, she left him in few months to a place that she can never come back. His god took her first. May be he likes his angels near him rather than being with a soul in earth. He looked in heavens and prayed “God please take me too, let me be with her”, but the only replay he got was from nature, strong water drops from the sky, it was the cold December rain. The water drops hide his tears from the world.

Years went by, and then he met her. She had his angels’ eyes, but she was more like a butterfly than an angel. She flew around him and showed him the beauty of the nature, and she made him believe that he’s the only flower that she likes to sit on. He prayed to his God “Dear God thank you for giving me a new hope for my life, a new meaning for this lonely life, please don’t let my butter fly leave me like my angel left. Let me be her guardian angel, take my half-life so that she’ll live longer”. Life is never fair, and happy endings are only in stories that he heard and read; he realized that his butterfly likes to be a butterfly and she likes to go and sit on other flowers and taste them too, but he never gave up on her because he believed in true love. He thought she’ll realize it one day and will be back to him; therefore he never told her that he knew she is seeing other flowers. His thoughts and prayers where for nothing, she completely left him and went for other flowers.

He still prays to his God, his first prayer “God please not let me awake and see the next day”.
